  • Ritz-Carlton, the international luxury hotel chain, is set to open a resort in Bellagio, Italy.
  • Managed by Marriott International, this marks the Italian debut of the Ritz-Carlton brand, which currently operates more than 100 hotels in 35 countries.
  • The opening will mark “one of the most significant luxury hospitality projects in the region”, according to Marriott.

Luxury hotel chain Ritz-Carlton will make its debut in Italy with a new resort in Bellagio, on the shores of Lake Como.

The resort, which is slated to open in 2026, looks set to be popular with high net-worth (HNW) travellers in Italy looking for a luxurious getaway.

As Covid-19 pandemic restrictions are all but lifted, many people are starting to travel abroad again for a number of reasons, including work, tourism and shopping.

For any travellers seeking to take advantage of Italy’s exchange rates and luxury goods market, it is important to find a safe and secure method of money transfer.

By assessing international money transfer options, travellers can be certain to find the right method for their desired purchase.

The Ritz-Carlton Bellagio project will see a conversion of the former Hotel Grande Bretagne, one of the area’s first luxury hotels upon its opening in 1850.

The waterfront hotel will offer 59 guest rooms, 46 suites and facilities, including fine dining restaurants, a destination spa and state-of-the-art event and meeting rooms.

The resort also encompasses a 16,500-square-metre estate, with parkland that is set to house a historical walking train, an outdoor pool, a private boat dock for access to Lake Como and a meditation garden.

The Vice President of Mariott Luxury Brands, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Candice D’Cruz, said that the hospitality development project was one of the most notable in the area in recent years.

“We are thrilled to announce this landmark signing with Grimi, and to be part of such an important restoration of one of Italy’s most acclaimed destinations for luxury travellers,” said D’Cruz in a statement.

“Lake Como is the jewel in the crown of the Italian Lake district and we can think of no better destination to debut the Ritz-Carlton brand in Italy.”
